Iinah Iliih means “Precious Life”
MISSION STATEMENT:
To serve people with disabilities in educational, training, employment,
and recreational activities.
To educate the general public, tribal, state and governmental leaders,
and other service providers, as well as people with disabilities,
about the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).
To promote compliance with the ADA laws regarding accessibility,
parking, public facilities, and employment.
To provide outreach and transportation services for people with
disabilities residing in the community.
To learn to advocate for self and others.
To provide counseling and promote positive self-esteem for persons
with disabilities and their families.
To encourage and promote independence, self-sufficiency, and wellness
for persons with disabilities.
PURPOSE/SERVICES/ACTIVITIES:
Iinah Iliih will work to encourage and promote independence and
self-sufficiency by persons with disabilities. The program will
coordinate services related to education, training, self-care, recreation,
employment, and counseling provided to consumers and family members
to promote positive self-esteem. Staff conduct training and presentations
on injury prevention, seat-belt use, sobriety, sensitivity awareness
of persons with disabilities, and other related topics as requested.
Presentations may be arranged by contacting any staff or Board member
of Iinah Iliih.
Iinah Iliih has also established an Arts and Crafts Center at the
Rio West Mall in Gallup, New Mexico. The Center displays and sells
artwork made by American Indians with disabilities. If you are a
Native American artist with a disability, Iinah Iliih can assist
you with displays, marketing, and selling your arts and crafts.
